Velta Lauma (Knislis) Holt

Velta Lauma (Knislis) Holt passed away peacefully on March 26, 2024, at 85, in Vernon, Connecticut.

Velta was born in Riga, Latvia, on October 21, 1938. In 1950, her family migrated to Collinsville, Connecticut, with the help of Collinsville Lutheran Church.

Velta is survived by her brother Juris Knislis and his wife, Patricia; her son, Steven Holt; her daughter, Rebecca Schulte, and her husband, Brian; her beloved grandchildren, Mason, Ryan, Grady, and Brody; and her adored granddogs, Brandy and Oshie. Velta also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, who will remember her fondly.

She is predeceased by her parents, Karlis and Vilma Knislis, her devoted husband, Alton Holt, and her sister, Mirdza Breece.

Velta's formative years in Latvia laid a foundation of resilience and determination that she carried throughout her life. After moving to the United States, she pursued her education by earning an associate's degree from the Morse School of Business. Her academic success translated into a fulfilling career as a Business Administrator, where she supported several local companies with her expertise and work ethic. Beyond her professional life, Velta was an active member of her community. She was a valued member of the Vernon Woman's Club.

Velta took great pride in her Latvian heritage. She loved making traditional desserts like ham rolls and the Latvian cake to share with friends and family. Her creations were always admired, and everyone enjoyed them together. Most importantly, Velta treasured the time spent with her grandchildren.

Calling Hours will be held on Friday, March 29th at Holmes Watkins Funeral Home located at 400 Main Street, Manchester CT from 4pm till 6pm. Burial will take place the following morning, Saturday March 30th at East Cemetery, located at 220 East Center Street, Manchester CT at 12 noon. Please meet directly at the cemetery.
