It’s with great sorrow and sadness to announce that Dick passed away suddenly at Hartford Hospital on September 19, 2022. Son of the late Helen and Harold Bassett, Dick was born and raised in Manchester, Connecticut. He attended local schools before graduating from Cheney Technical High School. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves and was stationed in Fort Jackson, S.C. Dick then went on to earn his state certification in cabinetmaking while working at C H Dressier Co. in Hartford. Later, he was employed at The Travelers Insurance Company in Hartford. Here, he worked in the Building Operations Department for 41 years before retiring.
A longtime resident of Glastonbury, he enjoyed his retirement and spent many summer days at the shore with friends. He was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge No.73 of Manchester, a car enthusiast, and avid race car fan. Dick faithfully attended the Stafford Speedway races, as well as the NASCAR racing circuit, and spent many years attending the Daytona 500 race in Florida.
Dick was a very kind, thoughtful and a compassionate man. He was loved by friends, family and liked by new acquaintances he met along the way.
He is survived by two sisters, Margret Maldonado and Gloria Bassett both residing in Willimantic Connecticut. He also leaves behind nieces and a nephew. He also leaves behind his longtime girlfriend and devoted companion Pamela, who was by his side at the time of his passing.
