Patricia Dow Obituary

Patricia Lamica Dow, 87, daughter of Grace Hough Lamica and Arthur “Pic” Lamica died peacefully at her home in Manchester, CT surrounded by her family. Pat grew up in Windsor, Vermont and graduated from Windsor High School. She attended Becker Junior College in Worcester, MA and worked briefly at Dunn and Bradstreet in Boston and Cone Automatic Machine Company in Windsor. She then went on to marry her high school sweetheart, William in 1957.

They lived briefly in Indianapolis, IN and Hartford, CT before settling in Manchester in 1962, to raise their young family. Pat enjoyed a wonderful life in Manchester raising her three children and participating in the community.  She was a stay-at-home Mom for many years. Pat was an active member of North United Methodist Church where many of her lifelong friendships began, particularly through the Women’s Tyler Circle.  She was heavily involved in the FISH volunteer ride program for the elderly for over 30 years.

After her children were grown, she obtained her real estate license and worked briefly as an agent.  She then found her niche working for pediatrician Dr. Winfield Moyer as a medical secretary and assistant, for many years until her retirement in 1992. Throughout her adult life, Pat got great enjoyment playing tennis at the Manchester Racquet Club and Neipsic Tennis Club.  She liked the competitive aspect of the game but more importantly, the social aspect, making countless friends throughout the years. An avid Bridge player, Pat played in a Thursday afternoon women’s group for over 50 years.  She enjoyed many evenings of social Bridge with Bill and their friends.

Pat & Bill made countless trips to their Windsor VT condo to visit local relatives and entertain family. Pat took great pleasure and pride in providing her family with a comfortable, clean, and loving home. Her after-school brownies and milk were the envy of the neighborhood. She had many interests and boundless energy. Her focus and greatest joy was raising and encouraging her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as they progressed through life.  She was a very enthusiastic, present, and supportive fan of all their activities. Her love was unwavering and boundless, and their love, her greatest reward.

Pat is survived by her husband of 67 years, Bill, and two daughters, Deborah (Dan Titcomb) and their four children, Rachel, Ben, Megan and Rebecca; and daughter, Cheryl (Ken Baker) their sons Kyle (Geovanna & their son Charlie) and Justin (Alyssa & their daughter Olivia). Her 2 great-grandchildren brought her endless happiness in her final years. Pat also, especially enjoyed reconnecting with her niece Anna Lamica in her later years. She was predeceased by her son, Michael and her 4 siblings Leo, Merle, Earl and Elmer. Many thanks to Donna and all those at the Visiting Nurses and Health Services of CT who provided loving and compassionate hospice care for Pat in her final days.

A Gathering to greet family and friends will be held at the Dow home in Manchester on Friday April 26th from 4:00-6:00pm. A Graveside service will be held on Sunday, April 28th at 2pm at the Ascutney Cemetery in Windsor, VT within view of her young childhood home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Smile Train, support.smiletrain.org
