Maureen Prokipchak Obituary

Maureen (Mahon) Prokipchak, 64 of Manchester, CT, formerly of Somers, CT and Lansdale, PA, beloved wife for 43 years of J. Martin" Marty" Prokipchak and loving mother of the late Lauren Prokipchak, died Friday, October 19, 2018 at Manchester Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

Maureen was born in Philadelphia, PA on September 14, 1954, the eldest of six children of John V. Mahon of Souderton, PA and the late Ann C. "Nancy" (Blaston) Mahon. She was raised in Lansdale, PA and graduated from Lansdale Catholic High School. She moved to Somers in 1989 and has been a resident of Manchester since 1999. Maureen was a graduate of Asnuntuck Community College in Enfield and was employed in retail administration from 1989 to 2007 for the G. Fox, Ames, Filene's and Macy's department stores. She was currently an executive administrator for Comcast Telecommunications in Enfield and had been with the company since 2007.

Maureen was a faithful parishioner of the Parish of Saint Teresa of Calcutta in Manchester and served as a Eucharistic minister at St. Bartholomew Church. She enjoyed cooking and especially baking. Maureen's specialty was cup cakes which she created many different varieties to fulfill everyone's taste. Most of all, Maureen was serving of others in her church, community and family. Maureen was previously an on call counselor for the Network Against Domestic Abuse of North Central Connecticut, Inc. as well as a shelter coordinator for St. Bartholomew's in MACC's community homeless shelter. Maureen was also a member of the Caring Ministry at St. Bartholomew's and the Saint Vincent DePaul Society.

With her husband Marty she is survived by her son, John Martin Prokipchak, Jr. and his wife Linda of Wethersfield, CT, five siblings, Cindy Habick and her husband Don of Effort, PA, Laura McCauley and her husband John of Horsham, PA, Christine Oller and her husband Jim of Sewell, NJ, John "Jack" V. Mahon Jr. and his wife Liz of Harleysville, PA, and Nancy Bergey and her husband Lydell of Hatfield, PA. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visiting hours for family and friends will be held Thursday, Oct. 25, from 5 to 8 PM at the Manchester Funeral Home (formerly Watkins Funeral Home), 142 East Center Street, Manchester. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Oct. 26, at 11:30 AM at St. Bartholomew Church, Parish of Saint Teresa of Calcutta, 736 Middle Turnpike East, Manchester with burial to follow in St. Bridget Cemetery in Manchester.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 3 Landmark Square #330, Stamford, CT 06901; Parish of Saint Teresa of Calcutta , or the CT. Humane Society, 701 Russell Road, Newington, CT 06111.
