Mary Elizabeth Whipple (84) of Coventry, CT, passed away on February 11th, 2022. Daughter of the late Clayo and Marcia (Robbins) McGrath-Orlowski in Gardner, MA. She graduated from Templeton High School in Templeton, MA. and the family moved to Connecticut soon after.
She met her future husband while playing cards with friends one evening in Manchester, CT. Mary and Ernest made their home in Coventry, CT for their 46 years of marriage, they raised their family of seven children in that home. Mary worked at UConn, the Storrs campus, for over 18 years and she was a devoted fan of UConn women's Husky basketball, She was a regular bowler of more than four decades, during which time, she and Ernest bowled at Manchester's Parkade Lanes, Vernon Lanes and Silver Lanes in East Hartford. She enjoyed playing card games and dominoes with the family. Mary was also long-time member of Bolton United Methodist Church.
Mary is predeceased by her beloved Husband of 46 years, Ernest Whipple; sister Dorothy (Dottie) Wuoti; and brother Paul McGrath.
She is survived by her sister Natalie Smith; brother Robert Orlowski; children Maryanne Bucher, Bette Fielding and husband Brian, Debbie Ogden and husband David, Bernice Fritz and her Fiancé Eric Finkbeiner, Ernest Whipple, Jr. and wife Corey, Sharon Whipple and Eric Whipple; grandchildren Thomas Fielding, Stephen Fielding, Tiffany (Fielding) Richards and her husband Tyler, Ashley Ogden and her Fiancé Jonathan Ellis, Erin Ogden, Courtney (Whipple) Hall and husband Aj, Kimberly McKenna, Joshua Fritz, Rebecca Fritz; great-grandchildren Taylor Ogden and Emily Hall.
Mary was known for her sarcastic sense of humor and quick wit. Words cannot adequately describe our mother. She is now and will always be, dearly missed.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00am on Thursday, February 17th at Holmes-Watkins Funeral Home at 400 Main St., Manchester, CT the family will receive friends and relatives one hour prior.
