Marjorie Carlson Obituary

Marjorie Corinne Morris Carlson, 85, of Vernon, Connecticut passed away peacefully at home on July 30, 2021, under the loving care of her husband of 64 years, Harold Robert Carlson, Sr. A gorgeous summer day supported her transition from the physical realm, on her way to becoming now - a beloved ancestor.  With great strength and courage and in full presence - she is now holding her family and friends with a guiding quiet wisdom that we will continue to feel for all of our days.

Marjorie was born and raised in Bolton, the daughter of the late John Morris and Bertha Lapp Hauver.  Living in Vernon, CT for 55 years, she devoted her life to raising her family involved in their lives always with great interest.  She later went back to school earning her Associates Degree in Science from Manchester Community College.  She went on to work at UCONN Health Center for the state’s top neonatal sleep apnea specialist helping care for high-risk premature infants in the neonatal intensive care unit until she retired.

Marjorie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She was especially proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. The adventures she had with each of them uniquely will carry indelible joy, wisdom and care as they move forward in their own lives.  She was a progressive thinker and stayed interested in the world around her all her life. Marjorie loved going on adventures with Harold whether it was the two of them driving across the country to see the USA or hopping on a plane to travel to the country of Turkey.  She was an avid UCONN basketball fan and a Red Sox fan by default.  She enjoyed reading, knitting, sappy Hallmark movies, and was a cut-throat Scrabble player who never lost! She loved the ocean and enjoyed many memorable days by the sea with her husband, family and friends. Growing up she would put her children in the car for a surprise trip to the beach at a moment’s notice. She was the best swimmer!

Marjorie was an expert level genealogical researcher.  She has left a tremendous gift to her family in a family tree researched and verified for more than 15 years. We now have family stories stretching back to places all over the globe going back centuries. We are so grateful to her for this gifted legacy.

Marjorie does not leave anyone behind. Here she travels with us still and always.  In high school, Harold saw her sitting on a fence waiting for the bus and declared to his friend, “That is the girl I’m going to marry!” Together they have a family of three children, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Along with her husband Harold, Marjorie has three children, Kathleen Lee and her son-in-law George of Old Saybrook, CT, Linda Weiss and son-in-law Randall of Chaplin, CT and Harold R. Carlson Jr. and daughter-in-law Jayna of Portland, OR. She has six grandchildren Brady Lee and his wife Cari of Manchester, CT, Emma Weiss and her husband Patrick Pollin of RI, Allison Lee of Park City, UT and Alex, Micah, and Linnea Carlson all of Portland, OR.  She was affectionately called “GG” by her two great-grand-children Hazel and Brooks of Manchester, CT.

Marjorie was predeceased by her sister Caroline Cole and brother-in-law Milton of Tennessee. Her loving sister Brenda Florian who she shared a birthday with and her husband Howard of Enfield, CT. Brenda has treasured memories and will be looking for signs from her on their birthday. Her youngest sister Doreen O’Brien of Suffield, CT as well as several nieces and nephews. She loved her best friend Lois Rickert and her husband Mike whom she shared laughter, adventures and a little sip of Yukon Jack.

She has not left us, she lives in us and through us.  May you walk in beauty always dear Marjorie Corinne.
