John Oliver Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of John W. Oliver of Manchester, CT announce his passing after a brief illness on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at the age of 88 years. John will be lovingly remembered by his wife Hazel (Heard) of Manchester, CT; two daughters Vonda Tegel (Daniel) of Greenville, SC and Linda Oliver-Eckhardt (Kurt Eckhardt) of Newtown, CT., and his two granddaughters; Brianna Eckhardt (Justin Harris) and Hannah Eckhardt all of New York City. He also leaves his step-sister Charlotte Faucette of Hartford and sister-in-law Valerie Oliver of Ashford. John was predeceased by his parents, Charles W. and Madeline Oliver of Hartford, CT and his brother Charles W. Oliver of Ashford, CT. John lived in Manchester, CT for over 50 years and was a retiree of the U.S. Postal Service in Hartford. He also was a Korean War Veteran having served from 1951-1953. He enjoyed golf, tennis, running and practicing his trumpet and in later years still was an avid ‘cycler’ in the local gym. His kindness, fun personality and love of family were trademarks of ‘Johnny-O’ and he will be sorely missed by all those that knew him. It was John’s wishes to be cremated and have no formal funeral services. Please keep his family in your prayers and if you so wish, please consider a donation in his memory to Hartford Hospital, Fund Development, PO. Box 5037, 80 Seymour St. Hartford, CT 06101-9960 for the benefit of the Hospice Unit. A special thank you from his family to the wonderful nurses, doctors and hospice team at Hartford Hospital. Your kindness and support meant a lot to all of us during this difficult time. Holmes-Watkins Funeral Home, Manchester is assisting the family.
