Joan (Benoit) Grzyb

Joan B. Grzyb (Benoit) of Manchester, CT, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at her home on Sunday, September 18, 2022.

Joan was a lifelong resident of Manchester.  After graduating from Manchester High School in 1972, she then graduated from the St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in 1975 and worked for many years as a registered nurse in both the ER and OR at Manchester Memorial Hospital.

Joan loved to bake and cook and share recipes, especially for her famous mashed potatoes, spinach balls and cookie bars.  She found great joy in training her pet dogs and had a particular affinity for Australian Shepherds and Wheaton Terriers.  She was an avid reader and loved the Harry Potter series and the writings of J.R.R. Tolkien.  Joan loved bringing her family to the beach and was an avid windsurfer in her youth.  She also loved to crochet and make jewelry, often giving her creations as gifts to family and friends.  She loved playing cribbage with her family and enjoyed the performing arts, particularly musicals, choral music, figure skating and dance.  Her greatest joy, however, came from the times she spent with her family and friends.

She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend, and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Joan is survived by her beloved husband of 47 years, David, her two cherished sons, Matthew and Daniel, two revered daughters-in-law, Mandy and Nicole, and all of her grandchildren, whom she adored.

She also leaves behind her two brothers and their wives: George and Gail, and Paul and Sylvia; her brother-in law, Paul, and his wife Shari, and her sister-in-law, Diane, as well as many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her parents, Donald and Lorraine, and by her brother-in-law, Scott.

An in-person service will be held on Saturday, October 1st at 1:00 PM.  Due to COVID concerns for immunocompromised family members, the in-person service will be limited to immediate family; however, friends and family, both near and far, are invited to view the service online which will be Live-streamed and viewable on her obituary page on the Holmes Watkins webpage.
