Jean P. Hayes

 Jean P. Hayes, 93, of Vernon, formerly of Coventry, passed away peacefully at Manchester Memorial Hospital on Monday, February 22, 2021.

     Jean was born on August 9, 1927 in Wolfeboro, NH.  She was the second oldest of nine children.  Jean grew up in South Berwick, ME, moving to CT to help her older sister with her new baby after high school graduation.  A few years later she got a job at Colt Firearms where she met her future husband.  They were married for 45 years before he passed away in 1993.  She leaves her son, Brian of Reno, Nevada and her daughter, Donna and her husband, Dennis Costello of Vernon.

     Jean was an avid reader and had a wonderful command of the English language.  She loved to work crossword puzzles.  She had a deep love for all living things, except snakes, and especially adored cats and birds.  She was interested in anything to do with health and was ahead of her time in the 50's growing organic vegetables and banning soda and candy from the house.  She loved to sing and was an active member of the Second Congregational Church choir for 50 years.  

     Mom was a very gentle, precious person, who believed in decency, honesty and good manners.  In the 65 years that I knew her she never raised her voice.  Ever.  She was extremely easy to please, appreciative of the smallest gift or gesture of kindness.  It was a charming, heartwarming part of her personality.  

     We will miss her beautiful, blue eyes and her genuine smile, the loving way she would say, "I love you much, much, much,” her delight in a simple car ride and her voracious appetite for strawberry ice cream.
