Irene graduated from Manchester High School in 1961 and had a professional career at Travelers Insurance Company as a Keypunch Operator. She served the Manchester School System and became a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church as a secretary.
Her marriage to Norman Cyr was a beautiful partnership that spanned 42 years until his passing. Irene was predeceased by her son, Norman Thomas Cyr as well as her brothers, Thomas and Ronald Recknagel to whom she was lovingly dedicated while they battled muscular dystrophy.
She is survived by her first cousins, second cousins, many beloved friends and fellow church members. Irene's undying commitment and dedication to family, her church, friends and her son Norman truly brought "hope and light" to so many others who were touched by her love and care. Her incredulous spirit of advocacy and countless hours to build a more welcoming, loving and inclusive community where all people felt they belonged touched many. We were always embraced by her living spirit of care, support and kindness. She truly was a great teacher and role model for many of us who knew her.
She was a steadfast secretary of the Ladies Aid LWML of Zion Church and served as the Treasurer of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church for seven years. Irene's passion for her faith was further exemplified by her commitment to teaching Sunday School for over 25 years. Her dedication to the church spanned an impressive 56 years.
Irene also applied her nurturing spirit in the educational field as a One-on-One Aid at Buckley School, where she made a significant difference in the lives of many children. Irene would like to thank her many friends and relatives for standing with her when she needed them most in her life. The love of her life has always been the children. They are the best gift that anyone could be given.
