Carl A. Zinsser passed away on March 14, 2024 at his home in Manchester, CT at the age of 86. Carl was a loving husband of 57 years to his late wife, Ellen Zinsser. He is survived by his daughter Sandra Werkhoven and her husband Stephen; Eric Zinsser and his wife Catherine; and Pamala Brophy and her husband Kevin. He is also survived by his 6 grandchildren: Scott Werkhoven, and his wife Kari and their son Kadyn; Sean Werkhoven, and his wife Rebecca and their sons Eli and Asher; Jennifer Brophy; Elizabeth Zinsser, and her husband James Zinsser and their son Nicholas; Rebecca DiMeo, and her husband James and their children Scarlett and Grayson; and Michael Brophy. He is also survived by his brother, Gary Zinsser. Carl will forever be remembered for his tenacious dedication, his unfailing drive, and his wit.
Carl was owner and founder of Carl A. Zinsser Agency. He was a real estate broker and agent for more than 60 years. Throughout his life, Carl worked tirelessly for his community. He served as Connecticut State Senator from 1980 to 1986. Previous to that, he served on the Board of Directors for Manchester, CT. He was also Town Republication Chairman for Manchester, CT. He worked as Chairman for Operation Fuel from 1997 to 2004. Most recently, he was President for Orford Village Housing Development, a nonprofit organization providing affordable housing to the elderly.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Holmes-Watkins Funeral Home at 400 Main Street, Manchester, CT. The family asks that donations be made to Saint Judes, in lieu of flowers.
