August 5, 1927 ~ August 26, 2023 (age 96) 96 Years Old

Obituary

Bernadette (Bunny) Perkowski, 96, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on August 26, 2023 at Touchpoints of Farmington.   Bunny was born on August 5, 1927 in Eagle Lake, Maine to the late Hector Gagnier and Mary Ann Freeman.  She was predeceased by her ex-husband, Philip Perkowski, and her siblings, Harold, Roger, Camille, and Donald Gagnier; Walteen Soucy, Bernice Kelly, Beulah Saucier, and Jackie Boothby.  She is survived by, and will be dearly missed by her sister, Geraldine D’Auteuil, of Yorktown, VA, her son, James Perkowski of Pompano Beach, FL, her daughter, Lisa Cyr of Windsor, CT, and her partner Michael Joslin, her Grandson, Joshua Trares of Manchester, CT and step Granddaughter, Jordan Trares, of Manchester, CT, along with several cousins and nieces and nephews.

Bunny loved her family and friends dearly.  She never hesitated to help anyone in need. She had deep faith and was a very active member of St. Bridget’s Church for years.  She cooked at the Rectory for many Priests during her tenure there and they loved her blueberry pies and muffins!  She also helped for years at the church’s bazaar and tag sales. She enjoyed tag sales so much that we lovingly nicknamed her Mimis-Markdown!  Mom loved spending time with her family, and had many laughs with her siblings and friends whenever they gathered for a meal, a holiday or a special event. She cherished her time caring for her Grandson and was so proud of his accomplishments.  Mom also loved to cook for her family and she made so many favorites that we loved.  Mom also enjoyed reading, gardening and canning fresh vegetables as well as praying the Rosary. There were also many memories made in Eagle Lake, Maine when the family gathered for vacation.  Mom always reminded us to be thankful for our blessings especially during the holidays when we gathered to celebrate with as many family members as possible.

Bunny also had a great love for music and played the piano for years.  She instilled this love of music to her children, and she beamed with pride when she listed to her children sing.

Bunny was a teacher for many years in Manchester, New Hampshire and then taught in Manchester, CT until her retirement.  She graduated from Teacher’s College in Maine in 1946, and then continued her education at Eastern CT earning her BS Degree in 1974.  She loved teaching and helping children learn, she also tutored many children over the years, and had a small school house in the backyard on White Street where she resided for many, many years.

Our family will be honored if you can join us to celebrate her life. Visitation will be at 10:00am on Wednesday, September 6, at Holmes-Watkins Funeral Home, 400 Main Street, Manchester, CT.

A Catholic Service will immediately follow at the Funeral Parlor at 11:00.
