Allen L. Piper Jr., 78, of Hebron, husband of Diane (Zareski) Piper, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2022 at Hartford Hospital with his wife and daughter by his side.
Allen was born on March 29, 1944 in Latrobe, PA to Allen Sr. and Blanche (Johnstone) Piper. He attended schools in Pennsylvania before graduating from West Virginia University with a degree in mechanical engineering. While attending the university, he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity.
After graduation he worked for Pratt and Whitney, Turbo Power and Marines System, and Electric Boat. In 1985 he and partner Ted Srubas founded Protek Security Systems Inc. which remained in business for 27 years. Outside of his work, Allen’s passions were his beloved family, skiing, sailing, and all things mechanical.
Allen is survived by his wife Diane of 47 years, daughter Lindsay (Piper) Mastroianni (Stephen), and grandchildren Landon, Fiona, and Piper. He also leaves a brother-in-law Joseph Zareski, good friends Jim Bucior and Rich Fochi, and the family dog, Clementine.
Holmes-Watkins Funeral Home will handle the arrangements. Relatives and friends are invited to join the family to celebrate Allen’s life at Holmes-Watkins, 400 Main St., Manchester on Tuesday, September 27, from 11am to 1pm. At Allen’s request, the scattering of his ashes will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, of Boston, MA.
