William D. "Bill" Snow 76, beloved husband of 39 years to Susan A. (Sessions) Snow of Manchester, passed away peacefully at Touchpoints at Manchester after a long battle with pancreatic cancer on Saturday, May 14, 2016 surrounded by family. He was born April 12, 1940 in Boston, MA, son of the late Phyllis (Webb) Snow and Virgil E. Snow. Bill grew up in Brookline, MA just outside of Boston. He described his early life as "uneventful", but from his earliest years, he remembered World War II, where rationing and shortages of goods were commonplace. "I almost never had ice cream as a kid" he said. But it wasn't all grim he added, his "neighborhood in Brookline has lots of kids to play with". One of Bill's favorite childhood memories involves and act of profound generosity. When Bill was about 9 years old, he wanted to play baseball with the school team. His parents were poor and couldn't afford a glove. His brother Dick (10 years his senior) had just finished high school and was working for a men's clothing store in downtown Boston. With what little money he had, Bill's big brother bought him a new baseball glove. That gesture never left Bill's mind still after all these years. Bill graduated from Brookline High School in 1958. He played trombone in the high school band. During high school, as a Massachusetts state officer in the Methodist Youth Fellowship, Bill gave serious consideration to going into the ministry, but decided on undergrad work at Boston University (BU) instead. While studying psychology and philosophy at BU, his world view began to change. He pledged Tau Kappa Epsilon because, at that time, it was the only fraternity at BU without racial or religious requirement. He graduated in 1962 with a Bachelor's degree in psychology and was the first of his family to earn a college diploma. In 1977, Bill met the love of his life, Susan (Sessions) Lamson, who had two daughters, Amy and Cheryl. With Bill's three son's and Suzie's daughters, it was like having the Brady Bunch around. One big blended family. For 20 odd years, Bill with Suzie at his side became volunteer supervisors for CPTV in Hartford, working and supervising the auctions, pledge drives meeting a plethora of talent and most of all volunteering for most of the UConn women's basketball games. They also volunteered to help raise money for the Manchester Dog Park. (MDOG) In recent years, Bill and Suzie focused on enjoying life, spending time with friends and family, balancing work and life, and keeping active. They were enthusiastic subscribers to the Arts, loving live theatre. Bill tried not to miss any performance at the Hartford Stage or Bushnell Theatre. He continued to work at the job that he loved for a hobby supply wholesaler, Hobbytyme Distributors Inc. in East Hartford, CT. He was waiting for Suzie to retire with him and together enjoy the Golden years. "Who wants to sit home all day when I can enjoy what I love to do". He will always be known as a calm, peaceful, loving spirit. I addition to his loving wife Suzie, Bill is survived by his three sons from a previous marriage: Scott and wife Elise, and grandchildren Miranda and Jared of Framingham, MA, his son Dave and wife Meg of Brooklyn, NY, son Steve and wife Carol of Watertown, MA, daughter Amy Granato and husband Jason of Columbia, his granddaughter Brianna of Glastonbury, daughter Cheryl Cole of Ocala, FL. his sister-in-law; Marie (Lehane) Snow of Orlando, FL, nephews; Dave and wife Dianne, Dennis and his wife Debbie, along with their children and grandchildren, all of Orlando, FL. In addition to his parents Bill was predeceased by his brother Richard Snow. The family would like to extend much gratitude and thanks to the Helen & Harry Gray Cancer Center, Hartford, CT as well as the Doctors and Staff at Hartford Hospital. Calling hours will be held at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St. Manchester on Saturday, May 21, 2016 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm with a service of remembrance at 7:30 pm.
