Walter P. Gorman Jr

October 20, 1926 — February 13, 2016

Walter ("Bud") Patrick Gorman, Jr. passed peacefully at the age of 89 on February 13, 2016. He was born in Manchester to Helen (Higgins) Gorman and Walter P. Gorman and was the middle of three brothers. He attended Kingswood-Oxford and graduated from Holy Cross in 1948.
He served during the Korean War, worked in journalism, and traveled extensively in Europe. An avid painter, he was involved in the West Hartford Art League.
Bud was a distinctive gentleman who practiced both discipline and creative expression in his daily life. His love of vibrant colors and patterns was incorporated into his wardrobe, art, and garden. His lifelong home on Brookfield St. was the center of his world, where he could be found gardening by day and playing piano, reading, learning, and painting long into the night.
Though he lived alone, Bud was a people person. He delighted in talking with people of all ages while on his regular walks to the library, attending Mass at St. James, trips to New York and his yearly ski trips to Kitsbuhel, Austria. He was known for the playful twinkle in his eye and his booming laugh.
Bud was pre-deceased by his brother Raymond and is survived by his brother Edmund, his nephew Tony Gorman, nieces Sara Bryce, Susanna Gorman, and Ellen Link and her husband Alfred. His great nephews Peter Gorman and Charlie Link and great niece, Caroline Link, remember their great uncle as "An inquisitive, creative, and well-traveled man who was powered by a healthy mind, body, and soul."
The family is grateful for his Brookfield St. neighbors and the caregivers at Woodlake at Tolland who provided care and company to Bud in his later years.
To a life well-lived: Bravo Bud, take a bow.
