Wallace T. Grube

July 16, 1948 — January 25, 2016

Wallace Timothy Grube, of Coventry, CT. On January 25, 2016, Wally died at the age of 67 after a courageous battle with cancer, at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT. He was born on July 16, 1948 to Wallace and Augusta (Korn) Grube in Manchester, CT. Known as "Wally" to most he was "Timmy" to his parents and his siblings. Wally graduated from Manchester High School in 1966 and from Heidelberg College in Ohio in 1970. In 1972, he earned his masters' degree at the University of Vermont, where he met his first wife and developed his lifelong love of farming. He returned to Connecticut in 1986, and shortly thereafter he met and married Frances Rumm. They moved to a farm in Coventry, where they have kept each other out of trouble for 30 years. Wally loved life. He loved children, and was a thoughtful and generous father and grandfather. He was a good listener; patient and kind. He enjoyed good food and was an avid home brewer and bread baker. He loved listening to his music and watching movies, and liked gadgets and games. He had an unparalleled sense of style; he never met a bright color or a t-shirt that he didn't like. He liked to travel, but even more, he loved staying home and being on his farm. He was happiest there, planting, watering and harvesting his beautiful cut flowers. He had a terrific sense of humor and a radiant smile. He was a mainstay at the West Hartford farmers' market, which he managed for over 20 years. There, customers knew and loved him as the hat- wearing flower guy. Wally also worked for the last 30 years alongside his mother and siblings to run the family business, William Korn, Inc. manufacturing lithographic supplies. Wally is survived by his wife Frances Grube of Coventry, CT, three daughters, Becky and her husband Eric Sideman of Strafford, NH, Cathy and her husband John Peters of Woodstock, VT and Diane Grube and her partner Jefrey LaPrade of North Pomfret, VT; two step sons, Philip and his wife Heather Rumm of Old Lyme, CT and Peter Rumm of Seattle, WA, two granddaughters Endine and Amelia Peters of Woodstock, VT. He is also survived by his older sister Louise and her husband Les White of Ridgefield, CT, younger siblings Barbara Flynn of Madison, CT, Steven and his wife Carla Grube of Foxboro, MA and Lorraine and her husband David Ellis of Purcell, OK, and many loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents.
