Viola M. Campbell

Viola M. (Caruso) Campbell, 93, of Suffield, formerly of Manchester, wife of the late Alfred R. Campbell Jr., passed away Sunday, November 23, 2014 with her family at her side at Johnson Memorial Hospital, Stafford Springs. Viola was born in Hartford, August 18, 1921, daughter of the late Domenica "Minnie" (Lattanzio) Caruso and resided in Suffield since 2002, previously living in Manchester from 1953 to 2002. Viola was a 1939 graduate of Weaver High School, Hartford and graduated in 1942 from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing, she also attended the University of Oregon. Viola proudly served her country in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps during WW II and was discharged with the rank of Lieutenant (JG) from the Naval Reserve. She was a registered nurse and nursing supervisor at Manchester Memorial Hospital for 15 years, retiring in 1975, and also was employed at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford. She was a communicant of St. Bridget Church and active in the former St. Bridget Rosary Society. Viola is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth A. Kuhn and her husband, James, of West Hartford, a son, Bruce D. Campbell of Bronx, NY, two granddaughters, Jennifer Schade and her husband Douglas, of South Boston, MA, and Emilie Roach and her husband Casey of Brooklyn, NY, also four nieces and their families. Besides her husband and mother she was predeceased by a sister, Grace Lanza and a niece and a nephew. Her family would like to thank the staff and nurses at Suffield By The River for their many years of compassionate care for our mother. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Bridget Church 80 Main St. Manchester. Everyone attending is asked to please go directly to the church. Burial with military honors will follow in East Cemetery, Manchester. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society 825 Brook St. I-91 Tech. Ctr.
