Thomas S. McCarthy, 79, of Manchester, beloved husband of 55 years of Virginia "Ginny" (Wells) McCarthy passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 19, 2019 in Manchester. He was born on November 14, 1939 in Malone, NY son of the late James and Alva McCarthy. Tom was raised in NY and was a graduate of Franklin Academy, Class of 1960. He was a proud veteran of the US. Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1964. Prior to his retirement in 2001, Tom was employed for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft as a fuel control test mechanic for over 35 years. He was a longtime Communicant of St. James Church in Manchester. Tom was a longtime fan of the L.A. Dodgers from the time they were in Brooklyn, NY. He was a follower of the UConn Womens Basketball Team, NASCAR and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish Football team. In addition to his wife he is survived by his daughter Christine McCarthy of Peoria, IL, two granddaughters; Jennifer Annis of Manchester and Kathryn Helgeson of Peoria, IL, his brother Edward McCarthy of Arlington, MA, his sister Joan Slickney of Malone, NY and numerous nieces, nephews and their families. In addition to his parents Tom was predeceased by his son Thomas W. McCarthy, two sisters; Elizabeth McCarthy and Mary LaBarge and three brothers; James, Richard and Michael. Calling hours will be held at Holmes-Watkins Funeral Home, 400 Main St. in Manchester on Thursday, January 24, 2019 from 4-6 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Friday, January 25, 2019 at St. James Church, 896 Main St. in Manchester. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Manchester.
