Sylvia Alma Stechholz, 100, a lifelong resident of Manchester, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at her home in Manchester. She was born on June 17, 1926; daugther of the late Rev. Hugo and Louise (Breisch) Stechholz. Sylvia was a 1944 Manchester High School graduate and attended Hartford Art School and Hillyer College. Following graduation, she was employed as an administrative assistant with the Criminal Investigation Division of the IRS for 41 years. After retirement, Sylvia joined the Travelers Insurance Company’s Retirees Job Bank, where she worked part-time for several years. She is an active member of the company’s retirees club. She also was a member of Indian Hill Country Club for 25 years, a former member of the Manchester Historical Society. Sylvia was an avid golfer, she was a member of Indian Hill Country Club for 25 years, a former member of the Connecticut’s Women’s Golf Association, the Manchester Country Club, as well as the Town of Manchester Senior Women’s Gold League. In addition to golf, she loved bowling in several duck-pins bowling leagues and participated in the town’s annual women duck pin bowling championship where she once was the runner-up. She also enjoyed following the UCONN Men’s basketball team and attended many of their home games. Sylvia is survived by her niece Claudia Chiaro of Georgia, nephews Rev. Dr. David P. Stechholz of Detroit, MI, Dennis Stechholz of Bolton, CT and numerous other extended family and friends. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her sisters Almeda Stechholz, and Pauline White, her brothers Rev. Erwin Stechholz and Ewald Stechholz and her nephew Jon Stechholz. Sylvia was a faithful member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Coventry, CT. There will be no calling hours. A Funeral service will be held on Wednesday September 9th, 2026 at 8:30 AM at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 10 North River Road Coventry, CT. Burial will follow in the family plot in the Laurel Grove Cemetery in Totowa, New Jersey. Memorial donations in Sylvia’s memory can be made to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church or to the Connecticut Humane Society of Newington.
