Sylvia A. (Gilbar) Smith, 78 of Manchester, CT, widow of Milton W. Smith Jr., died Monday, August 22, 2016 at her home after an extended illness.
Sylvia was born in Hitchcock, VT on February 17, 1938, daughter of Douglas G. Gilbar and Christine D. (Ryea) Gilbar. She was raised in Vermont and had been a resident of Manchester for most of her life. Prior to retiring she had been employed at Quality Name Plate as a parts inspector. Sylvia enjoyed quilting, crocheting, coloring, watching her cooking shows, and spending time with her family.
She is survived by three children, her daughter Corinne M. Crosby of Manchester, her son Walter A. Smith of Manchester, and Milton W. Smith III of Manchester, her step son Steven D. Smith and his wife Maryanne of South Carolina, four grandchildren, Diane Crosby Dumas, Rachael Crosby, Samantha Goicoechea (Smith), and David Smith; her brother, Robert Gilbar of Florida, her sister, Deana Perkins of Sevierville, TN, and several nieces and nephews.
A private burial will be held in the Buckland Cemetery in Manchester. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of Connecticut., 45 Ash St.
