Stanley Capers Weinberg, Jr., 91 years, died peacefully after a long illness with family by his side on Friday, December 4, 2020 at Hope Hospice House in Fort Myers, FL. Stanley, called Capers by his immediate family, was born on December 23, 1928 in Campbell, VA. Stanley was raised in Roanoke, VA graduating from Roanoke High School lettering in many sports. He served in the Navy during the Korean War and graduated from Boston University in 1958 where he met his wife, Barbara. They made a home together in Manchester, CT where they lived for over 40 years. Stanley worked for Texaco, owned his own business, served as Regional Director of the Small Business Administration and was co-owner with Barbara of Re/Max, East of the River in Manchester for 25 years. They lived in Cape Cod, MA and in Florida upon retirement. Stanley was a devoted UConn Womens basketball Huskies fan. He enjoyed cooking and sharing meals with family and friends. He had a deep faith and was a lay leader in the United Methodist Church. He was strong-willed, believed in breaking down barriers between people and was passionate about politics. He was most proud of his work as the campaign political director for the 1976 Jimmy Carter Presidential campaign for the State of Connecticut. He was the beloved husband of Barbara Weinberg, ne Bickerstaffe, for 61 years. Devoted Dad to Susan McCallion and husband Jim of Sanibel, FL; and Leslie Walseman and husband Charlie of Framingham, MA. Cherished Grandfather to Kate and husband John Heroux; Chaz Walseman; Lizzy and husband Scott Crockett; Emily, Andrew, Caitlin and Abigail McCallion and adored Great Grandpa to John and Caroline Heroux. He was a big brother to Charles Weinberg and wife Jan; and William Weinberg and wife Lois and cherished Uncle to many nephews and nieces. A private graveside service will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, December 10, 2020.
