Sophie "Sue" Krowchenko, 97, of Ellington and formerly of Manchester, beloved wife of the late John Krowchenko, departed very peacefully on Friday August 28, 2015 at her home with her family at her side. Suzie was born April 30, 1918 in Manchester, daughter of the late Jan & Nellie (Panek) Sienda, she was raised in Manchester and moved to Ellington in 1946. She was a lifelong member of St. John's PNC Church in Manchester, she served as President of the St. John's Lady's Society and sang in the church choir. She was also a member of the Ellington Senior Citizens, the Ellington Historical Society and the Red Hat Society. Sue had spent many years volunteering at Rockville General Hospital and she had been active in the Rockville Bowling League. Prior to her retirement Sue had worked for many years at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft. Suzie loved her rug hooking, braiding, sewing, knitting, crafts, canning and flower gardening. She is survived by three children, Denise K. Archibald and friend Manfred Gerstung of Ellington, Donald A. Krowchenko and his wife Chriss of Grandy, NC, Linda Ann Phelps and her husband Jerry of Zephyrhills, FL., four grandchildren: Jenna Rodriguez and husband Leesandro of Ellington, Kristoff Krowchenko and partner Mark of Providence, RI., Nicholas Krowchenko and Cyrus Allen both of Phillipsville, CA., and two great grandchildren Jonah and Mateo Rodriguez,. Other survivors include her sister Phyllis and husband Fred Gasior of Manchester, and a brother Stanley Sienda of Alaska and sisters-in-law, Sophie Krowchenko of Indian Orchard, MA., and Anastasia Franek of Vernon. She leaves many nieces and nephews, especially her favorite niece Donna Reminek of Grafton, MA. She also leaves her caregivers, Linda Degan, Laurie O'Connor and Brenda Dimmock. Suzie was precedeased by brothers and sisters, Stephanie Lemek of Vernon, John Sienda of Washington State, Edward Sienda of East Hartford, Helen Kavanaugh of East Hartford, Ida Petruziello of Lakeland, FL. and Benjamin Sienda of Manchester. Funeral services will be held Friday September 4, 2015 at 10:00 am at the Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St., Manchester. Followed by a Mass at 11:00 am at St. John's PNC Church, 23 Golway St., Manchester. Burial will be in St. John's PNC Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 4-7 pm at the funeral home.
