Sigvart O. Svalestad

Sigvart O. Svalestad, 91, of Manchester, beloved husband for 60 years to the late Sylvia O. (Heggen) Svalestad was promoted to glory on Sunday, February 14, 2016. He was born on October 4, 1924 in Norway son of the late Alfred and Elena Svalestad. Sigvart earned his Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Guttenberg in Sweden. Prior to his retirement in 1985, he was employed for over 35 years with Combustion Engineering in Windsor, CT. He was a longtime member of the Salvation Army Church in Manchester. Sigvart is survived by his four sons and three daughters-in-law; Owen and Rachelle of Manchester with whom he made his home, Alfred of Manchester, Scott and Louise of East Hampton and David and Beti of Manchester, thirteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He also leaves his brother Arnold Svalestad, two sisters Torbjorg Brynildsen and Astrid Eldevik all of Norway and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Friday, February 19, 2016 from 6-8 pm at Watkins Funeral Home, 142 East Center St. Manchester. A memorial service will be celebrated on Saturday, February 20th at 11 am at the Salvation Army Church, 661 Main St. Manchester, CT 06040.Memorial contributions may be made to the Manchester Salvation Army Church.
