Shirley Marie (Sullivan) Swain, 88, of Manchester, loving wife of 68 years to Edward Swain Jr., went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at home. She was born on February 1, 1928 in Springfield, MA daughter of the late Almet E. Sullivan Sr. and Dorothy (Wilson) Sullivan. Shirley was a graduate of Manchester High School, Class of 1946 and had been a resident of Manchester for over 75 years. Prior to her retirement, she was employed for over 30 years at Manchester Memorial Hospital. Shirley was an active member of the Manchester Church of the Nazarene for 58 years and she will be greatly missed by her church family and friends. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend who was always the happiest when family was together. Shirley gave her family and friend's unconditional love and support. She was and is loved. She made a positive impact with all who knew her and she will be deeply missed. In addition to her beloved husband Ed, she is survived by her two sons; Edward Swain III and his wife Susan of Manchester and Keith Swain and his wife Kelly Messner and her daughter Elyse of Wilmington, DE, her grandson Scott Swain of Philadelphia, PA and her brother John Sullivan of Missouri. Besides her parents, Shirley was predeceased by a grandson Mark Edward Swain, her sister Judith Sullivan and her two brothers; Almet E. Sullivan Jr. and Daniel Sullivan. Calling hours will be held on Monday, May 30, 2016 at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St. Manchester from 2-5 pm. Funeral services will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at the Manchester Church of the Nazarene, 218 Main St. Manchester at 11:30 am. Burial will follow in East Cemetery, Manchester.
