Shirley L. Schmidt

Shirley L. (Snow) Schmidt, 85, of South Windsor, beloved wife of Melvin R. Schmidt passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at her home. Shirley was born on July 10, 1931 in Ware, MA. She was the daughter of the late Houghton and Darsa (Dodge) Snow. She resided in South Windsor for 58 years. There she raised her loving family and began a catering and wedding cake business. She then took her passion for cooking and baking and opened her own restaurant in South Windsor called Shirley's "A Touch of Gourmet". It was a successful venture that lasted for 9 years and was enjoyed by many. She was an active member of the Wapping Community Church in South Windsor, a former Girl Scout Leader. Shirley was a wonderful cook, an accomplished painter, and an amazing cake decorator. She lit up a room with her outgoing spirit and her smile. She leaves behind her loving husband of 61 years, Melvin and is survived by her three children and their families, Susan and Mark Fenaughty of Cheshire and their children, Kellen and Lauren, Sheryl and Don Smith of Goffstown, NH and their children, Zachary and Jessica, and David and Brenda Schmidt of Peoria, AZ and their children, Abbey, Madison, and Cole. Shirley also leaves her brother Kenneth Snow and his wife Linda of Belchertown, MA, her sister Betty Cacciapaglia and her husband Joseph of De Soto, TX , her sister-in-law, Alice Muirhead of Newington and numerous nieces, nephews and many good friends. Family and friends are welcome to attend calling hours on Sunday, October 30, 2016 from 4-7 pm at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St. Manchester. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 31st at 12 noon at the funeral home followed by burial in East Cemetery, Manchester.
