Russell A. Turner, 85, of Manchester, loving husband of 40 years to Elaine "Lanie" (Johnson Dickson) Turner, passed away peacefully Monday, Oct. 2, 2017, at St. Francis Hospital. Russell was born Feb. 6, 1932, in Old Bridge, New Jersey, son of the late Walter R. and Beatrice (Appleby) Turner. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force proudly serving his country during the Korean War. Russ was employed for over 40 years with Pratt & Whitney Aircraft until retiring in 1993. Russ was an active and registered Boy Scout for 74 years and became an Eagle Scout in 1949. In 1956, he started Troop 123 in Manchester and was Scoutmaster for 16 years and an Assistant Scoutmaster from 1972 to present. Russ was the advisor for the Order of the Arrow (OA) National Honor Campers for over 30 years and he received his Vigil Honor in 1967. His true love was Camp Johnson in Bolton, which is a private camp donated for use of Scouts in the area, serving there for over 50 years. He volunteered at Lake of Isle Scout Reservation and Curtis S. Read Scout Reservation in Brant Lake, New York for over 50 years. Russ attended four National Jamborees and attended the Philmont High Adventure Base. He received numerous good scouting awards. In addition to his wife Lanie, Russ is survived by his five children, Russell "Rusty" Turner and his wife, Linda, of Feeding Hills, Massachusetts, Lori-Bea Turner of Manchester, David Dickson and his wife, Dawn, of Hoschton, Georgia, Robert Dickson and his wife, Kimberly, of Watertown, and Cvetko Dimovski and his wife, Zlatka, of Vernon, and their family; his seven grandchildren, Jillian Irish, Jennifer Irish, Kari Turner, Kristin Turner, Kennedy Dickson, Thomas Dickson, and Austin Dickson; and a great-grandson, Yancel. Russell's family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Fox Hill Center for their kind and compassionate care over the past three years. Calling hours will be held at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St., Manchester, Monday, Oct. 9, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be celebrated at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 41 Park St., Manchester Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017, at 10 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in East Cemetery, Manchester.
