Ronald Oscar Schack

Ronald O. Schack, (age 82) went home to the Lord on May 14, 2018 in Manchester, CT surrounded by his family.

He was born on January 2, 1936, at Mrs. Howe's Maternity Home, Manchester, CT, son of the late Oscar and Anna (Rieder) Schack. He leaves his best friend, and beloved wife of 61 years, Irene (Kotsch) Schack, and children: Laura A. McKay, Amy E. Schack, Sandra I. Baranowski and her husband Joel, and Ronald W. Schack and his wife Lisa, all of Manchester; his grandchildren: Benjamin, Nathaniel, Amanda, and Zachary Baranowski; Stephen and Sarah McKay, Carolann Schack, and, step grandchildren; Bryan and Liam Kilmurray. He also leaves two sisters in law: Janice Schack of Enfield, CT, and Viola Stenger of Glastonbury, CT, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as dear friends, Ray McKay and Karl and Anna Link. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers William and Robert Schack, sister-in-law Setsuko Yasumine Schack, and grandson Ronald 'Xander' Schack. Ron was a lifelong resident of Manchester and attended local schools. He graduated from Manchester Community College and received a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Central Connecticut State College. He worked for Pioneer Parachute Co., and Dari-Maid Milk Co., before entering the U.S. Army, serving with the 3rd Missile Battalion, 562nd Artillery. He was also employed by the London and Lancashire Insurance Co. His career in the U.S. Postal Service spanned 34 plus years in several different offices. He held numerous positions before retiring as Postmaster, Willimantic, CT. in 1997.

Ron enjoyed quality time with his children and grandchildren; listening to classic country music and researching family histories. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, and UConn basketball. Ron was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, having served on the Church Council, Outreach and Legacy Committees. He was a member, volunteer, researcher, and writer for the Manchester Historical Society, and a member of Connecticut Society of Genealogists, United Postmasters & Managers Association, and American Legion Post 102.

The family thanks Dr. Joseph Guardino, II, Dr. Saquib Naseer, Dr. Karen Halasan, and the staff at Masonicare for their care and support.

Holmes-Watkins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Visitation is Saturday, May 19, 2018 from 9:30a.m.-11:00a.m. at Concordia Lutheran Church Garden Room followed by a service at 11a.m. Burial with military honors will follow at East Cemetery, Manchester, CT. Memorial contributions may be made to Concordia Lutheran Church, 41 Pitkin St., Manchester, CT 06040; or the Manchester Historical Society, 175 Pine St., Manchester, CT 06040.
