Roger W. 'Ray' Taksar

Roger W. "Ray" Taksar, 73, of Bolton, passed peacefully on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Roger was born on March 29, 1944 in Hartford, son of the late Raymond and Mary Taksar. He owned and operated Ray Taksar Bicycles in Hartford for over 40 years, a business he took over from his father who was involved in the early days of bicycle racing and speed skating in Connecticut. After serving in the Army National Guard, Roger competed in motocross racing throughout his 20's, and for nearly the last twenty years was active in the Mt. Laurel Ski Club. When he wasn't skiing at Okemo Mountain in Vermont, he was riding his bicycle all over New England with the club. Roger was an avid Ham Radio operator (WB1BXS), and spent his free time making radio contacts with other enthusiasts around the globe. Roger never lost the taste for speed into his 70's and spent his final years staying active year around. He is survived by his son Dustin Taksar of California, his brother Ronald Taksar and his wife Beverly of New Hampshire and many wonderful friends from all over Connecticut. Family and friends are welcome to attend a time of visitation at Watkins Funeral Home, 142 East Center St. Manchester on Saturday, July 1, 2017 from 10- 11:30 am with words of remembrance at 11:30 am. Burial will be private in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Boy Scout Troop #25, c/o Center Congregational Church, 11 Center St. Manchester, CT 06040.
