Roger Armand Dion, 90, of Manchester, CT passed away in peace on December 3, 2017. He was born March 15, 1927 to the late Cecile H. and Peter A. Dion in Willimantic, CT.
He spent his younger years in Willimantic, where he attended local schools. Upon entering the U.S. Navy in 1945, he attended radio school in Gulfport, Mississippi and proudly served his country during World War II. From 1947 to 1953, Roger was employed by G. Fox and Company in the tobacco department where he met the love of his life, Anne. He began his career in banking after graduating from the Hartford Institute of Accounting and the American Savings and Loan Institute. He was dedicated and hard-working throughout his career until his retirement in 1986.
Roger was an avid New York Giants fan. He loved vacations on the Cape where he enjoyed lots of lobster and steamers. He created beautiful family memories and was a man of boundless energy, strength and irresistible charm. He was passionate about Veterans affairs and was involved in numerous projects focused on the recognition of all veterans. He truly touched the hearts of so many with his generosity, love, and humor.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Anne (Zesut) Dion, brother Albert Dion and sister Claire Colton. Roger was the loving father of Roger P. Dion, Leslie Thibodeau and son-in-law Donald A., and Michele Mandell. Proud grandfather of Jason Thibodeau, Darcey Calabraro, Lee Thibodeau, Dan Dion, Roger Toner, Jonathan Mandell and Alexandra Mandell. Great-grandfather of Benjamin, Callie, Anthony, and Grayson.
Roger's wishes were for contributions to be made to Animal Friends of Connecticut, Inc., P.O. Box 370306, West Hartford, CT 06137-0306. This will continue to support all animals which he so loved. A Graveside Service will be held Thursday, December 7, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Augustine Cemetery on Hopewell Rd., Glastonbury, CT.
