Roberta Rose (Hebert) Carpenter, 88, daughter of the late Eugene and Rose (Paul) Hebert, passed away peacefully in Manchester, Connecticut Wednesday March 28, 2018 after a long struggle with dementia. She courageously accepted the disease and maintained a great sense of humor until the end.
Roberta, loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great grandmother, was predeceased by her beloved husband of 47 years, David Otis Carpenter, her older brother Eugene, "Sonny" Hebert, and her brother-in-law George Connell. She is survived by her twin, Brother Robert Hebert of Narragansett, RI, three sons and their families; Paul Carpenter and Kim McLaughlin of Manchester and their children; Mashal Ebadi, David Carpenter, Melissa and Jacquelyn Schors, Everett and Mary Sue Carpenter of West Hartford and their children; Terry and Gabby Carpenter, Maddie Sullivan, and Stephanie and Justin Goguen and Tom and Linda Carpenter also of Manchester and their children; Victoria and Peyton Carpenter, as well as two great grandsons; Payson Carpenter and Grey Klecak. Also surviving her are in-laws Arnold and Shirley (Carpenter) Tew and their children John, Susan, Peter, Robert and their families and her sister-in-law Lois (Carpenter) Connell as well as her daughters Abigail, Kathy and Sarah and their families. Roberta also leaves her brother Sonny's son, Alan Hebert and his wife, Joanne, of Riverside CA.
Roberta, and her twin Robert, were born in Rehoboth, MA on March 6, 1930 and resided for most of their youth in Rhode Island, both graduating from East Providence High School in 1948. After high school Roberta began a banking career at Rhode Island Hospital Trust and Robert entered the Order of the Christian Brothers.
She then met her future husband, David, and they married in 1958. After marrying, they moved to Connecticut and settled in Manchester where they lived for the remainder of their lives. There, they provided a wonderful home and life for their three boys. Roberta continued to work in the accounting and banking business working for O'Neil and Walsh Accountants of Manchester and then Connecticut Bank and Trust, in Hartford, from which she eventually retired. Roberta was active in the Waddell School PTA and the St, Bridget Church Social Club.
Roberta and David spent many happy seasons camping at local camp grounds including Sun Valley, Highland, Rainbow Acres, and Roaring Brook. She loved birds and the many pet cats and dogs she had over the years and of course any time spent with her grandchildren.
Our family extends enormous gratitude to Jeanna, from Companions and Homemakers and all the nurses and aides at the Westside Care Center who have taken care of Roberta for the past 4 years. They were all God sent.
Donations can be made, in her name, to the Alzheimer's Association, Connecticut Chapter.
