Robert F. Sloan Jr

Robert F. Sloan Jr., 98, of Manchester went to be with the Lord on July 3, 2015. He was born October 26, 1916 in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and was the son of the late Robert F. Sloan Sr. and Mary Jane (Steed) Sloan. He was a student of history and a lover of music. Bob was a long time employee of Carlyle Johnson in Manchester, where he retired in 1981. Upon retirement, he worked part time as a courier for a local law firm. A gifted harmonica player, he performed on WTIC radio in the 30's while serving in the CCC camps. He also played drums with the Manchester Pipe Band for 14 years, and had a keen ear for harmonies. Bob was a longtime member of Trinity Covenant Church in Manchester and he was a 32nd degree Mason with Manchester Lodge #73 A.F. & A.M. and Friendship Lodge #145 A.F. & A.M. Bob was a member of the Valley of Hartford Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite and a member of the Omar Shrine Club. He was predeceased by his wife, Robina (Hall) Sloan, his granddaughter, Elizabeth "Ellie" Sloan and his brother, William Sloan. Bob was a devoted father and is survived by his children, Robert J. Sloan and his wife, Linda of Deltona, FL, Nancy S. Taylor of Manchester, Betty Lou Longo and her husband, Charles of Glastonbury, and Ronald E. Sloan and his wife, Barbara of Coventry. He also leaves eight grandchildren; Scott, Todd and Edmund Sloan, Linda and Lisa Taylor, Karen Bona, Heidi Gourley and Katherine Sloan, five great-grandchildren; Leah and Kyle Gourley and Julian, Logan and Bailey Sloan, his niece, Gail Lemieux, and his nephew, William Sloan and their families. Bob's family would like to thank the staff at Manchester Manor, especially on the North Wing for the excellent care they provided. Funeral services and burial will be private in East Cemetery, Manchester. There are no calling hours.
