Robert J. Madden, 93, lifelong resident of Manchester and husband of the late Pauline (Belanger) Madden, died Tuesday November 10, 2015 at a local convalescent home.
Bob was born in Hartford on November 30, 1921, son of the late Maurice J. and Anna (Wartley) Madden. He graduated from Manchester High School and served in the Army Air Force during World War II. Prior to retiring in 1983 he had been employed with the US Postal Service for 29 years. He was a longtime and active member of the Community Baptist Church in Manchester, served a term as the church moderator, and was a member of the weekly Bible study group. Bob was also a member of the Beethoven Chorus for many years.
He is survived by his daughter and two sons, Jane R. Dzurenda and her husband Kenneth of Vernon, David J. Madden and his wife Sandra of Westerly, RI, and John R. Madden and his wife Diane of Windsor; four grandchildren, Andrew Madden, Jeremy Madden, Sean Dzurenda, and Katie Dzurenda, and his niece, Maize Frenkiel and her husband Richard. Besides his wife he was predeceased by his sister, Ethel Rollason.
Funeral services are Saturday, Nov. 14, at 10:30 AM at the Community Baptist Church, 585 East Center Street, Manchester with burial to follow in the East Cemetery in Manchester. Visiting hours are Friday, Nov. 13, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main Street, Manchester.
