Richard R. "Dick" Moore, 78, of Englewood, FL and Old Saybrook, CT, beloved husband of 55 years to Irene F. (LaPollo) Moore passed away on Monday, October 6, 2014 peacefully with his family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on March 8, 1936 in Hartford son of the late Winfield and Barbara (Handle) Moore. He was a graduate of Manchester High School and Howell Cheney Technical, Class of 1954. He served his country from 1956-1962 in the Connecticut National Guard being honorably discharged having earned the rank of Sergeant First Class. Dick was employed for over 45 years in the construction industry with Standard Builders and the Industrial Construction Company, retiring in 1999. He was a former member of the Center Congregational Church in Manchester and a 30 year member of B.P.O.E #1893. Dick was an avid craftsman and he enjoyed skiing, sailing and playing golf. In addition to his wife, Irene he is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Kimberly Moore of Colchester, VT and Donald and Kerry Moore of Ellington, his seven loving grandchildren: Michael, Joseph, Christopher, Sara, Jack, Emily and Christopher. He also leaves his sister, Carol Carlson and her husband, John of Bedford, MA, his nephew, Robert Carlson and his niece, Laura (Carlson) Miller. Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 10, 2014 from 5-8 pm at the Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St. Manchester. Funeral services will be celebrated on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014 at 10:00 am at Center Congregational Church, 11 Center St. Manchester. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Manchester.
