Richard Valentine Molloy

October 2, 1931 — March 8, 2025

Richard ("Richie") Valentine Molloy, 93, beloved husband of Margaret (King) Molloy passed away peacefully on March 8, 2025. He was born in Liverpool, England, on October 2, 1931, to the late Richard Valentine and Margaret (Flaherty) Molloy. Richie had lived in Bolton, CT since 1992 and South Windsor, CT for many years prior.

As a child during WWII, Richie was taken from his family home in Liverpool and sent to live on a farm in the countryside of Wales to escape bombing raids in the city. At the age of 17, he joined the British Merchant Navy and traveled the world on Ocean liners, going to places such as South America, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and often to New York City. In 1959, Richie married the love of his life, Margaret. They immigrated to the U.S. in 1961, to Connecticut, where two of his siblings had previously immigrated. Richie worked at Empire Tool in Manchester, CT for many years. He later joined the carpentry trade working for Advanced Interiors and Grimm & Ronco. He was a skilled craftsman in multiple disciplines. He could often be found tinkering in his basement workshop. After retirement, Riche refurbished furniture pieces and sold them at the Mansfield flea market, where he made many friends. He had a dry British sense of humor, frequently coming up with one-liners, which made people break out in laughter. He was defined by his fundamental decency.

Richie is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Margaret; his children, Rick Molloy and his wife Donna; Sherry Williams and her husband Kenneth; Tracy Molloy and her partner Doug Guerin; and his beloved grandsons, Connor Williams and Austin Molloy. He was predeceased by his sisters, Norah Davies, Frances Banaeige, Agnes Ackerman, and his brother, William, who died as a child in England. He also leaves behind many nieces, a nephew, and extended family in England. He will be deeply missed.

At the request of his family, services will be private. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Richard's name can be made to The Bolton Volunteer Fire Department Incorporated, 168 Bolton Center Rd., Bolton, CT 06043. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Village at Buckland Court for their care and compassion throughout Richie's final voyage. Although he was made weak by time and fate, he remained strong in will as he prepared to set sail beyond the sunset.
