Richard H. Matheson

Richard H. Matheson, 77, of Enfield, formerly of Danielson and Manchester, died peacefully on Thursday, July 5, 2018 after an extended illness. He was born on January 25, 1941 in Numa, Iowa one of four children of the late William and Ruth Matheson. Richard was raised in Des Moines Iowa and attended local schools. He was a proud veteran of the US. Army serving his country from 1959-1965. He began his postal career as a mail carrier in 1970. Richard then was promoted to Supervisor and eventually earned the position of Postmaster at the Danielson office until retiring in 1998. He was an avid animal lover, especially cats. Richard was well known to take in cats and feed them until finding them a home. Richard is survived by his three children; Kathy Massie and her husband Todd of Broad Brook, Lisa Famiglietti of Springfield, MA and John Matheson of Enfield with whom he made his home, his three grandchildren; Andrew Famiglietti and his wife Kelsey and their two children; Alex & Aria, Joshua Famiglietti and Brooke Massie, his sister and brother-in-law Gwen and Lonnie Overton and several nieces, nephews and their families. In addition to his parents Richard was predeceased by his brother Billy and his two sisters; Beverly and Marilyn. Funeral services and burial in the Connecticut State Veteran's Cemetery in Middletown are private. There are no visitation hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the CT.
