Richard J. Diaz, 65, of Vernon, CT, son of the late Walter and Helen (Syskowski) Diaz, passed away early Sunday morning, August 12, 2018 at his home.
Richard was born on October 29, 1952 in Rockville Centre, Long Island, New York. He spent his younger years there before moving to Manchester in 1963. Richard graduated from Manchester High School Class of 1970, and went on to college at UCONN in Storrs where he received his BA degree majoring in math. While working towards his degree, he had a successful kidney transplant performed in 1973. He had been employed for over 30 years with the State of Connecticut as a Technical Analyst.
He is survived by his loving sister, Carol Dumas and her husband Richard of Manchester, CT; his special nephew, Gary Dumas who shared his love for cars, and his fianc, Karen Minor for whom Rich was the uncle she never had, of Tolland, CT, both who were there for Rich every step of the way; his loving niece, Kristen McManus and her husband Donny of Meriden, CT. He also leaves behind his treasured dog "Travis," his constant loyal companion who was always there to greet him at the door.
His family would like to thank all the nurses and technicians at the Vernon DaVita Dialysis Center for their kind and compassionate care of Rich.
The Holmes-Watkins Funeral Home in Manchester has care of the arrangements which will be private (at his request) and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
