Rhoda Marion Krinjak

June 4, 1922 — December 24, 2017

Rhoda M. Krinjak, the widow of Manchester Police Lieut. John C. Krinjak, a woman of kindness and dignity, died peacefully at home on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2017 at the age of 95, with her daughter and son by her side. Rhoda was born in Manchester, CT on June 4, 1922 to William P. and Bertha (Elliott) Hall, was a lifelong resident, and was a graduate of Manchester High School, class of 1940B. It was through her first job after high school, as a bookkeeper at Burton's Ladies' Shop on downtown Main Street, that she met John, the love of her life, who was the shipping and receiving guy. Rhoda and John were married on April 22, 1944 at the home of Rhoda's parents on Orchard Street while John was home on a weekend pass from Fort Bragg, N.C. They subsequently enjoyed a day-and-a-half honeymoon in New York City, and John was back on the base in Fayetteville by Monday morning. After beginning a family, Rhoda was employed for many years as office manager for Drs. A. E. Diskan, Herbert Snyder, and Martin Rubin of Manchester. In later years, she worked for The Salvation Army in secretarial capacities, first at Divisional Headquarters in Hartford and later at the local Army Corps in downtown Manchester. Rhoda was a lifelong and faithful member of the Manchester Salvation Army Citadel, where she was the longstanding piano accompanist for the Songster Brigade and active in many church organizations.

A devoted mother and grandmother, Rhoda is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John H. and Susan Krinjak, and by her daughter, Karen L. Krinjak, of Manchester, CT and by her grandsons, John H. Krinjak Jr. of Providence, R.I., and David P. Krinjak of Encinitas, CA. She is also survived by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law David and Celia Krinjak, her sisters-in-law Lucille Krinjak (Robert) and Rosalyn Krinjak (Richard), and by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by her sister, Faith Ann Hall. She also leaves her many wonderful friends at Orford Village Commons, her home for the past 18 years. The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the dedicated staff of Visiting Nurse and Health Services of Connecticut for their compassionate care during Mom's final illness.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, December 29, 2017 at the Salvation Army Citadel, 661 Main St., Manchester, CT with a luncheon and reception at the church immediately following the service.
