Raymond W. Lukas

Raymond Walter Lukas, 99, lifelong resident of Manchester, beloved husband of 47 years to the late Jane (Scott) Lukas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 at Manchester Memorial Hospital. He was born October 27, 1925, son of the late Stephen Sr and Antonina Lukas.
Raymond left high school to serve in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a signalman aboard LCI (L) - 883 in the Pacific. Upon returning home he operated Lukas's Sunrise Market alongside his father. He rounded out his years of employment working as a skilled carpenter.
Raymond was a long-standing member of the Eighth Utilities District Fire Department Company 1. During his tenure he worked his way up to the rank of Lieutenant. Raymond was given the honor of being the Grand Marshall of the Eighth Utilities District Fire Department's 125th Anniversary parade. He also spent many years as the coach of the fire department's softball team. Throughout his life he was an avid collector, with a particular love of Hess trucks.
Raymond is survived by his daughters and their husbands, Pamela (Lukas) and John Burger, Cynthia (Lukas) and Thomas Morrison; his grandchildren, Keith Morrison, Ashley (Burger) and Timothy LaChappelle. Alexa (Burger) and Edward Alexander; his nephews, Charles Lukas Jr. and Robert Lukas; and his niece, Kathleen Blake.
Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Charles Lukas Sr. and Stephen Lukas Jr.; his sister Edith Blake; his nephews, Gerald Lukas and James Blake; and his niece, Patricia Lukas.
Friends are invited to call on Thursday, November 14, 2024 from 4 to 7 pm at Holmes-Watkins Funeral Home, 400 Main Street, Manchester, CT. A Memorial Service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, November 15, 2024 at 9 am, burial to follow at East Cemetery.
