Phyllis M.C. Mcgeown

Phyllis M. (Cain) McGeown, 82, of Manchester, beloved wife of the late Earl F. McGeown, passed away peacefully in her home Thursday, October 16th. Daughter of the late John J. and Anna Belle (Clement) Cain, she was born June 2, 1932 in Hartford, CT. Phyllis worked for Hour Glass Cleaners for over 35 years before retiring; a job she truly enjoyed. She was an avid Red Sox and Celtics fan, staying up late to cheer on her teams. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her great-grandchildren, knitting, traveling, and working on (and completing!) impossibly hard puzzles. Phyllis is survived by her four children, Audrey McGeown, of Manchester, Clement McGeown and his wife Rebecca, of Coventry, Sandra Small and her companion Roland, of Willington, Teresa Wilson and her companion, Lamont, of Manchester, three grandchildren, Toni Nelson and her husband Josh, of Manchester, Melissa McGeown and her husband Steven, of Marlborough, Jason Wilson, of Springfield, MO, six great-grandchildren, Dean, Gwenyth, Alex, Xander, Dante and Janessa, several nieces and nephews, and her 4-legged friend, Fluffy. She was predeceased by her brothers Clement and John. The family would like to express their gratitude to Phyllis' caretakers, Mary Catherine and Marion, her nurse Kathy and the rest of the staff at Visiting Nurse & Health Services of Connecticut, Ed and his wife Marylou from Meals on Wheels, and Rev. Dana Hallenbeck. Family and friends may gather to celebrate Phyllis' life on Saturday, October 18th at 10am at the Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main Street, Manchester. Burial will follow at East Cemetery, Manchester.
