Philip L. Converse, 68 of Vernon, formerly of Bolton and Manchester, father of Christina Converse and David Converse of Manchester, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, February 14, 2015 at W.W. Backus Hospital, Norwich. Phil was born in Manchester, February 8, 1947 son of the late Lawrence A. Converse Jr. and Ruth P. (Johnson) Converse. He was raised in Bolton and graduated from Manchester High School Class of 1966. Phil served in the Connecticut Army National Guard Engineering Corps, from 1967-1973, honorable discharged with the rank of 2nd LT. He was a truck driver for many years employed at Strober General Building Supply and ProBuild both of East Hartford and a member of the Teamsters Union. He loved golfing, fishing and was a longtime member of Manchester Country Club where he enjoyed his weekly card games with friends there. In addition to his daughter and son, Phil is survived by a brother, Lawrence A. Converse III and his wife, Joan of Bolton, three sisters, Dail C. Negro of Hebron, Phyllis C. Daly and her husband, John of Bolton, Ellen R. Converse and her husband, Chris Nardine of Seattle, WA and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by a brother-in-law, Gilbert Negro. Per Phil's request, in place of formal services, he wishes to be remembered by friends and family, during the weekly card games or while playing a round of golf.
