Peter Roman, 97, a long-standing resident of Manchester, CT., passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2025. He was born June 9, 1927, in Vernon, CT to John Roman and Anna (Makauskas) Roman.
Peter grew up in Rockville and graduated in June of 1945. By that September, he was serving in the U.S. Army occupation forces in WWII Germany. He returned to Manchester, CT., and owned a trucking business and was employed by Pratt & Whitney. When his wife passed away unexpectedly, he kept all seven of his young children together.
Peter will be remembered for his love of going fast by driving cars (like Little Nootchie) and flying airplanes, trading in the stock market, and UCONN Women's basketball. One of his greatest joys was flying his Stearman.
Peter was predeceased by his wife Mary Roman. He is survived by his loving children, Lisa Roman, Michael and Lauri Roman, Sandy and Russ Willis, Scott and Cindy Roman, Mary-Pat and Keith Soucy, Laurie and Nick Phillips, Sherry and Billy Kozicki.
Grandchildren, Mike (Kathyann) Lizotte, Shalon (James) Kerr, Jennifer (Nick) Willis White, Jamie Behrens, Tom (Danielle Limberger) Soucy, Brandon (Lauren) Behrens, Deanna (Shane Geary) Willis, Austin (Felicia Wachowiak) Soucy, Bradley (Jillian) Behrens, Samantha (Va Xiong) Willis, Sierra (Matt) Willett, Brett Behrens, Daniel (Lily Gorman) Roman, Dylan Roman, Alexandria Soucy, Madison (Riley Carroll) Soucy, and 14.5 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his "second family," the MacAlpines. Ray and Peter were best friends and their bond was passed on to their children as they grew up side by side. This family includes Margaret Mahland, Raymond MacAlpine, Jr., Julie Moore, Jerry MacAlpine, and Marie O'Briant.
Peter is predeceased by his sisters Jay Finlon and Stella Otto.
Services will be at Holmes Walkins Funeral Home, 400 Main Street, Manchester, CT. Calling hours will be held on Friday March 21, 2025 from 10:00 AM -11:30 AM, followed by a memorial service from 11:30 AM - 12:00 PM. Military honors will be presented prior to the burial at St. Bridgets Cemetery, 180 Oakland Street, Manchester, CT immediately following the funeral home service.
