Pearl (Babb) Ward passed peacefully on Friday, February 23rd at the age of 92. Within minutes of her passing, her 28th great-grandchild was born: Athena Persephone Ward.
She was born October 10, 1925 in South Portland, Maine to Pearle and Lillian (Thompson) Babb. She moved to Connecticut at age two.
She is survived by six children and their families: Joyce; Earl and his wife Elizabeth; Joan; Wendy Porter and her husband Alan; David and his partner Lise Jaeger; and Dennis and his partner Dayl Bouchard. She also leaves behind 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She also is survived by two sisters: Nina Piazza and Thelma Denski and her husband Frank as well as several nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband, Milo Ward; three sisters and three brothers; and three grandchildren: Marci White, Adam Ward, and Daniel Ward.
A long-term resident of South Windsor, Pearl moved to Manchester in the 1970s. She worked as a cashier in Manchester Memorial Hospital's cafeteria for more than a decade, and volunteered after her retirement in the gift shop. She was well-known and well-liked among the MMH community. In addition, she was an active member of the Manchester Senior Citizens Center. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Vernon Manor.
A wake will be held on Sunday, February 25th, 2018 from 2-4pm at Holmes-Watkins Funeral Home on 400 Main Street in Manchester. Rev. Dr. Mark Egli of Community Baptist Church will officiate a memorial service at 10am on Monday, February 26th, 2018 at the funeral home, followed by burial in East Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the philanthropy of the donor's choice.
