Pauline G. "Polly" (Chapman) Johnson, 92, a lifelong resident of South Windsor, beloved wife of the late Clyde E. Johnson Sr. passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Manchester Memorial Hospital. She was born on October 10, 1921 in South Windsor daughter of the late Frederick F. and Sarahbelle (Bownes) Chapman. She attended local schools and was a member of the first graduating class of the Ellsworth Memorial High School. Mrs. Johnson was a longtime member of the Wapping Community Church and was very active and generous to the South Windsor community. She was an honorary member of the South Windsor Fire Department and a member of the South Windsor and Manchester Historical Societies. She was also a proud and longtime member of the Connecticut, Massachusetts and National Button Society. Polly enjoyed gardening preserving her pickles, vegetables and jams. She was accomplished in many handicrafts, cake decorating and adding to her many collections. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Evelyn Chapman of South Windsor, her sister, Betty Lou Murray of New Mexico and her cousin, Sally Edlund and her husband, Fred of South Windsor. Polly also leaves her many friends from the Button Clubs, Emeralds and the Red Cabin. A special thanks to Nick and Joanne Sivo, Clint Charter, Martha Breen and her family, Lorna and Bill Slysz, Susan and Kelley Buffum and Art and Karen Holgerson who added and enriched her life for many years. In addition to her husband and parents Mrs. Johnson was predeceased by her son, Clyde E. Johnson Jr. and her sister, Ellen Schneider. A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 12, 2014 at 1:00 pm in the Wapping Cemetery, South Windsor. There are no calling hours.
