Nicholas M 'Nick' Carlo

Nicholas M. "Nick" Carlo, 83, of Manchester and Singer Island, Fl., and formerly of Vernon, beloved husband of Elizabeth "Betty" Carlo, died peacefully, Monday December 8, 2014 at Hartford Hospital with his family at his side after a brief illness. Nick was born February 12, 1931 in Hartford, son of the late Michael & Marie (Maselli) Carlo, he attended local schools and was a 1948 Graduate of Bulkeley High School in Hartford. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran serving during the Korean War and went on to become owner/operator of Nick's Auto Parts of Vernon until his retirement. He was also the creator/owner of Golf Car Rental in Bolton, the first to rent tournament fleet cars to courses and for special events. Nick always said "I have a Love/Hate relationship with golf", he was a longtime member of the Manchester Country Club and served twice as Club President. Nick was also an active member of the Manchester Rotary Club and was involved with numerous fundraising events with the club. He recently became interested in flying remote control planes and enjoyed that very much. Nick was well known for his generous heart as well as being a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather "Grampa Nick". In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Joppru and her husband Ronnie of Vernon, Mary Beth Hoffman and her husband Steven of Manchester, his son Michael Carlo and his partner Patricia Moriarty of Tolland, five grandchildren, Scott Hoffman and his fianc Amy Lindsay of Manchester, Bryan Hoffman and his wife Eileen of Bolton, Kevin Hoffman and his wife Caroline of Wilton, Amy Carlo of San Marcos, CA. and Julie Carlo of San Diego, CA., four great granddaughters, Katelyn, Emma, Claire and Hailey Hoffman. Other survivors include his sister Mildred Herms of Wethersfield and his brother Russell Carlo and his wife Rosemary of Rocky Hill and numerous nieces and nephews. Nick was predeceased by a great grandson Dylan Hoffman and a sister Carmella Devaney. Funeral services will be held Thursday December 11, 2014 with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM at St. Bartholomew Church, 45 Ludlow Rd., Manchester. Burial with Military Honors will be held at Valley Falls Cemetery in Vernon. There are no calling hours.
