Nels Granquist Jr., 93, of Manchester, beloved husband of the late Shirley Mae Granquist entered into eternal peace Friday, June 15, 2018 at Manchester Memorial Hospital with his loved ones by his side.
Nels grew up in New Britain, CT and joined the Navy in 1943. He received an honorable discharge in 1946 and was awarded the American Theatre Medal, The Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal, The Philippine Liberation Ribbon and Victory Medal. He then went on to complete an accounting degree at American International College. He headed up the accounting department for 25 years at Connecticut Printers. After that he handled the accounting at Middlesex visiting nurses and continued well past retirement age. He and his loving wife Shirley loved to travel and visited many beautiful destinations during their retirement. Nels also loved to garden and was proud of his pristine yard. Nels was a lifetime member of the Manchester Elks and he loved the prime rib dinner night and going to the Westbrook Elks Club to enjoy the beach.
Nels is survived by his children, Leslie Kajtor, Susan Wojnarowski and her husband Ken and Nels's two grandchildren Shawn and Emma. He also leaves behind many Nieces and Nephews.
There will be a short service at Hillstown Road Veterans Cemetery, 180 Hillstown Rd, Manchester, on Wednesday, June 20th, 2018 at 11:00 AM. There will be no calling hours.
