Nancy Elizabeth Nead

Nancy E. (Brooks) Nead, 80, of South Windsor, formerly of Manchester, loving wife of 58 years to Wilbert "Gene" Nead, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2016 surrounded by her children at Crestfield Rehabilitation Center. Nancy, originally from Altoona, PA, graduated from Altoona High School and the Altoona Hospital School of Nursing. She was a Registered Nurse for over 40 years most recently working at Bidwell Healthcare Center in Manchester until retiring in 1998. Nancy was a member of Second Congregational Church in Manchester and a life member of Order of Eastern Star, Temple Chapter #53. She was predeceased by her father Charles Brooks, mother Alice Brooks, her brother Calvin Brooks and sister-in-law Judith Brooks. In addition to her husband Gene, Nancy is survived by her two brothers; John Brooks of East Freedom, PA and Leslie Brookes and his wife Harriett of Altoona, PA; her daughter Alice Clifford and son-in-law James of Vernon, son Charles and his wife Claudia Scheuten-Nead of Panama City Beach, Fl, and daughter Barbara Hanson and her husband Daniel of South Windsor. She was also Nana to four grandchildren Lt Col Christopher Hanson and his wife Jennifer of Weisbaden, Germany; Danielle Hanson of St Paul, MN; Elora-danon Clifford and her soul mate Adam Duda of Somerville, MA; and Cassidy Hanson of South Windsor; great-gamma to Alexander Hanson and an aunt to several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Crestfield Rehabilitation Center and Vernon Visiting Nurses Hospice for their dedication and care of Nancy. Family and friends may gather for visitation on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 from 5-8 pm at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St. Manchester. Funeral services will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at 11:00 am at the funeral home followed by burial in East Cemetery, Manchester.
