Murrayn D. "Ranny" (Lata) Syphers, 74, of Tolland, wife of the late James Syphers, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 14, 2018 at home. Ranny was born in New London, CT, on March 22, 1944, to the late John and Drucilla (Beebe) Lata. She spent her early years in Niantic before moving to the Crystal Lake area of Ellington. She then moved to Manchester where she attended and graduated from Manchester High School, Class of 1962. Ranny worked as a bookkeeper, most notably for Elmore Associates and the Pioneer Parachute Company before her retirement. She loved to dance and bowl with her friends. Her favorite vacation spot was Brant Lake, NY, where she went fishing and antiquing with her close friends and her late husband. She was a wonderful cook and was renowned for her baking skills and her cake decorating. Everyone looked forward to getting their birthday cake from her. She used to throw lavish Christmas parties, enjoyed entertaining and we will all miss that bourbon spiked eggnog! She was funny, beautiful, sassy and compassionate. Her love of animals and her sense of humor made everyone love her.
Ranny leaves behind her two children, Scott McFarland of Bolton and Sue (McFarland) Nevins and her boyfriend Thomas Diana of Tolland; her four grandchildren Drew McFarland, Samantha McFarland, Mike Nevins Jr. and Sydney Nevins; two great-grandchildren who she loved very much, Greyson and Levi; two sisters-in-laws Marlene Lata and Annie Lata and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her two brothers Richard Lata and John Lata Jr. To the friends and family of Ranny, you all know that now is the time to pour your Dewar's & water and cheers to the celebration of her life!
