Michael Peter Kurys, 61, of Coventry, formerly of Bolton, loving father, grandfather, son, brother, and uncle, passed away after a brief illness on Thursday, May 11, 2017 surrounded by his family at Manchester Memorial Hospital.
Mike was born on September 5, 1955 in Hartford, CT, son of Helen (Hajdasz) Kurys of Bolton and the late Casimir Kurys. He was raised on the family farm in Bolton, attended local schools, and was a graduate of Bolton High School Class of 1973 and New England Tractor Trailer Training School. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator for over 42 years with Connecticut Natural Gas and was a member of the CT Independent Utility Workers Union Local 12924.
He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, fishing, and boating, and was a former communicant of St. Maurice Church in Bolton.
In addition to his mother, Mike is survived by his son Casimir Kurys, his fiance Courtney, and their daughter Briar Kurys, all of Coventry; his three sisters and brothers-in-law, Bernice and Bruce Dixon, Janet and Donald Assard, and Nancy and Robert Isleib, all of Bolton, his brother Joseph Kurys of Bolton, a sister-in-law, Jill Kurys of Hebron, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many good friends. Besides his father Casimir, Mike was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Kurys.
Visiting hours for family and friends are Monday, May 15, from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm at the Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main Street, Manchester. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, May 16, at 11:00 AM at St. Maurice Church, 32 Hebron Road, Bolton, CT 06043. (Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church.) Burial will follow in Bolton Center Cemetery.
