Mary A (Bumford) Poutre 98, of Manchester died peacefully surrounded by her family at Manchester Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center on September 30, 2024. She was born and raised in Hartford, the daughter of the late Augustine and Helen (Fuller) Bumford. Mary and her family moved to Manchester in 1950 with her late husband Raymond T. Poutre. Mary lived in Manchester for over 70 years, and also spending many winters in Holiday Florida.
Mary spent years as a stay at home mom, returned to work at Manchester Memorial Hospital as an X-Ray room orderly. She excelled at this job and was voted the first employee of the month at MMH.
Mary is survived by her five loving children, Edward Poutre and friend Jan Crowley of Bradenton, FLA, Anne Williamson and husband Peter of Vernon, Susan Yungk and husband David, from Manchester, Nancy Bigler and husband William of West Hartford, and John Poutre and wife Stacey of Manchester. (Mary is also survived by her 10 loving grandchildren Michael Poutre, Michelle Phillips (Chris), Jennifer Chenail (Brett), Scott Williamson (Jen), Thomas Williamson (Amanda Parrish) Christopher Bigler (Rachel), Violet Cutler, Owen Bigler, Rachel Blackmer (Michael) and Sarah Poutre. Mary is also survived by 9 great grandchildren.Mary is also survived by her sister Patricia Tattenbaum of Farmington. When Mary was growing up she treated her younger sister as her charge.
Mary was predeceased by her husband Raymond, her loving daughter Elizabeth (Betsy), her sister Elizabeth (Betty) Bumford, and brother in law Larry Tattenbaum.
Mary's family extends their sincere thanks to the nurse's and staff on the east wing of Manchester Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center for treating our mom with such warmth and utmost care.
Mary's family also extend our appreciation to North Central Hospice. They were and continue to be a life line throughout this process.
Calling Hours will be held on Tuesday, October 15th from 4pm till 7pm at Holmes Watkins Funeral Home, located at 400 Main Street, Manchester CT 06040. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, October 16th at 11am at St. James Church located at 896 Main Street, Manchester CT. Guests are encouraged to meet directly at the church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
