Martha L. Johnson, age 89, longtime resident of Manchester, died Monday, November 17, 2014 at a local convalescent home.
She was born in Boston, MA July 16, 1925, daughter of George B. and Lydia (Lampshire) Johnson, and lived most all her life in Manchester. Martha was a graduate of Manchester High School, Class of 1943, and was a longtime member of Center Congregational Church. Prior to retiring in 1984 she worked in the accounting department for the State of CT Department of Transportation. She loved to travel to Florida and spend her summers on Cape Cod.
Martha is survived by her brother, George H. Johnson and his wife Nancy of Vernon; a niece, Darcy Johnson and her husband Richard in Nevada; four nephews, Bruce Johnson of Vernon, Mark Johnson and his wife Yvonne of Torrington, Glenn Johnson and his wife Holly of Tolland, and Peter Johnson and his wife Susan in New Hampshire.
She was predeceased by a brother, Thomas E. Johnson, formerly of Canton, and a niece, Susan Kronick, wife of Ed Kronick and mother of Julie.
A graveside service will be held Monday, Nov. 24, at 11:00 AM in the East Cemetery (Section A), 240 East Center Street, Manchester. There are no visiting hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Visiting Nurse and Health Care, Inc., 8 Keynote Drive, Vernon, CT 06066.
